April showers bring May flowers, as the saying goes. Well, April thus far has not showered down approvals as, halfway through the month, the OGD stands at twenty‑one full‑approval actions and three tentative‑approval actions. If the trend continues through the end of the month, we could be heading for a month with less than fifty approval actions.
There is always hope for improvement towards the second half of the month, yet, so far through the 15th, the OGD appears to be stuck on a total of twenty‑four. The approval information can be found on the FDA’s All Approvals page here. We usually try to take a peek at the numbers a few days after the midway point of each month and report only on approvals listed. While is it usually fairly accurate, some approval actions do appear a day or two later (and sometimes they don’t appear at all). Today’s numbers are through April 15th; even though there were no actions reported that day, it is possible that the OGD is late in posting them. These days, you never know.
