We have all seen the FDA announcements about the use of Ivermectin, a drug approved to treat worms in humans and animals (and not to treat COVID), and you have likely seen the now infamous FDA tweet “You are not a horse.  You are not a cow.  Seriously, y’all.  Stop it.”  Yet people are continuing to demand Ivermectin and are using the product at an alarming rate, unfortunately listening to the misinformation about its use by TV “news” people as well as other conspiracy theorists.  This is hydroxychloroquine all over again.  What’s next?  Are we going back to bleach or strong light?

A story I read in Forbes online titled “No, Ivermectin Cannot Treat COVID-19” (here) is the clearest explanation of how and why this rabbit hole opened and, perhaps, why so many people are falling into it.  The FDA has made numerous pronouncements about the dangers of using Ivermectin, especially the veterinary version that is much stronger and can cause serious adverse events (see here).  The FDA has also outlined the faults in some of the so-called “studies” which were predicated upon falsified data, as pointed out in the Forbes article.

The risk at grasping at straws when there are known, approved vaccines and other therapeutics to successfully treat COVID place the patient AND the patient’s contacts at risk.  Pass the word along – and, by the way, tinfoil does not keep the aliens from reading your minds either!
